The Beaches in Cabo San Lucas are unparalleled. The white to pinkish sand stretches as far as you can see along the Baja Peninsula Beaches range from quiet, secluded and reserved, to flat out party spots. There is a beach for every type of visitor. Below are a few of our favorites.
Playa El Medeno is the main and most popular beach. Located close to downtown Cabo San Lucas, this is the major hub for spring breakers and the young at heart. The beach extends at the east side of the harbor and goes all the way to Villa del Palmar. This beach is by far the most popular beach in all of Cabo San Lucas. This is the beach where you see it all…and where you go to be seen as well. Medano Beach has full facilities. The beach is lined with famous restaurant spots, where people can eat and drink their days away. Bikini contests, Dating Games, Dance Contests, Etc.. are all conducted right on the beach. Vendors selling everything from silver jewelry to blankets are on the beach… but do respect visitors and somewhat keep their distance. The water is same to swim in, and maintains a temperature around 80 degrees. On Medano Beach water sports rental huts are prolific, offering high-powered watercraft, kayaks, small sailboats, booze cruises, water taxis, and water ski boats. Whether you choose an activity such as swimming, jet skiing, kayaking, waterskiing, boating, parasailing, volleyball or just want to people watch…Medano Beach has it all.

Playa Santa Maria is located along the corridor, and has repeatedly been referred to as one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Located along the highway at kilometer twelve next to the Hotel Twin Dolphin, Playa Santa Marina can be reached by car or conventional taxi. The turn off is not well marked. Look for the "Beach Access" sign and follow the dirt road to the parking area. The walk is a little tedious, but the rewards are huge. Playa Santa Maria is a crescent-shaped bay with pristine water nestled into a mountainous shoreline. The beach is covered with lovely sand that has a pink hue. There are no facilities and little shade so pack your supplies accordingly. Beat the crowds and arrive before 10:00am to secure yourselves a prime spot. If you love snorkeling and beaches…don't miss this one.
Playa Las Viudas is located just west of the Hotel Twin Dolphin. Unlike Playa Santa Maria, this beach and snorkelers paradise is crowd-free. Little to no vendors come to this beach which provides for a very quiet and uninterrupted beach experience. Bring all your own gear, as there are no places to rent equipment. This beach is one of our number 1 recommendations for newly weds. This bay is usually crystal-clear in the early morning. Hundreds of marine species are seen in this cove. Underwater photograph equipment is a must…even if a disposable camera is all you can get your hands on.
Playa Chileno is southwest of the stately Hotel Cabo San Lucas. This beach is one of the few beaches anywhere in Cabo San Lucas with services. Like Playa Santa Maria, it can be crowded on weekends, especially Sundays. This Beach is great for families, snorkelers and divers. To find this beach, look for the dive flag at the edge of the highway at Km. 14, which marks the parking entrance. Playa Chileno is easily accessible from Hwy #1. Cabo Acuadeportes Dive Shop palapa (a palm leaf covered hut) is located on the beach's southwestern end near the water. Chileno is a beautiful, fairly flat beach, perfect for strolling or running, with safe swimming and very good morning snorkeling. Playa Chileno's facilities include shade palms, restrooms, and equipment rentals. The dive shop rents Snorkel Equipment, as well as, Diving, Kayaking, and other Water Sports Rentals. The enormous rocky reefs are home to Sea Turtles, Moray Eels, Starfish, Sea Urchins, Sponges and many other awesome reef dwellers.
No matter which beaches you encounter or choose to visit, please make sure to remember that beaches in Cabo San Lucas are a little different than the norm.
- Do not swim alone…there are no lifeguards at any of these beaches.
- Convenience stores at beaches are scarce if not non-existent. Please make sure to bring adequate food, sun block, water, bathroom tissue, shade options etc…. It is always responsible to bring trash bags; and please hall your garbage out to keep the beaches beautiful for future visitors.
- Although Warning signs are usually posted be aware that certain beaches have severe undertows, currents; rip tides, etc… pay attention and be safe.
- Remember it is illegal to drive on the beaches… and doing so can result in stiff fines as well as jail time.
- Have fun, relax and as Bill and Ted would say…Be excellent to each other.
