January 2006Top

New Year's Day (January 1st)
This is a national holiday, and a day of parties and festivals. Check with Cabo San Lucas Tourist Information to see what specific activities are planned. Many people just sleep off the partying from the night before!

Dia de los Reyes Magos (Epiphany) (January 6th)
This is the day that unique gifts are traditionally exchanged. As it represents the day that the Three Kings arrived at the Nativity to acknowledge the baby Jesus. This is also a day when Rosca de los Reyes (King's Loaf) is served. This Mexican traditional pastry is a round, doughnut-like cake, which contains a little plastic doll somewhere inside. Years of tradition say if you are served the slice that contains the doll, you must host a party on Dia de la Candelaria in February.

Feast Day of San Antonio de Abad (January 17th)
Mexican religous holiday in which the catholic church allows animals to enter the church and be blessed.

February 2006Top

Dia de la Candelaria Candlemass (February 2nd)
This national holiday is filled with dance, food and music. This holiday recognizes the passing of the winter season. Those who were served the plastic doll in their Three Kings Loaf (see January) will host a party on this day, the traditional drink Atole and food Tamales by the host.

Dia de la Constitucion (February 5th)
Constitution Day. This holiday remembers the day Mexico drew up and enacted its new Constitution as a totally separate and free nation. Public agencies and Banks are closed on this day.

Art Festival "Todos Santos" (February 4th-11th)
Large annual art festival featuring a vast array of local artists. Tourists will see Silver Jewelry, Fire Opals, Paintings, as well as traditional food etc...

P.G.A. Senior Grand Slam (2nd Week of February)
This is an annual event featuring some of the most familiar names in the senior circle.

Friendship Day (Dia de Amistad and Dia de los Enamorados) (February 14th)
Love and friendship is celebrated, very similar to Valentines day

Carnaval (Late Feb/Early March)
This festival is a big party which takes place forty-six days before Easter Sunday, and is marked with parades, dancing, food, fireworks, and local music. This festival is especially big in La Paz; a two hour drive from Casa Gallucci.

March 2006Top

San Jose Days (March 8th-19th)
San Jose del Cabo hosts this traditional fair and festival. Take the highway back 4 miles north towards the airport and take a left at the City Centro Exit. The total drive time from Casa Gallucci is about 4 minutes.

Benito Juarez' Birthday (March 21)
This is the birthday of one of Mexico's most famous and revered heroes; also the country's first President - Benito Juarez. The day is marked with a Public Holiday. Parties, dancing, music, Mexican food and good times are practiced throughout the Los Cabos area.

San Jose 500 Offroad Race (March 19-20)
This event takes place at the "Pista Loco Sandoval" in San Jose del Cabo, offering the best viewing options since the track is set below the viewing area.

Spring Equinox (March 21st)
The first day of spring. This is the time of Spring Break activities. The weather is great. Expect to have a great time at the beaches during the day and Clubs at night.

Holy Week and Easter- 'Semana Santa' (April 9th-16th)
From Ash Wednesday (beginning of Lent) through the week after Easter Sunday is the busiest time at all of Mexico's key attractions. Everywhere you go there will be processions, festivals, parties, fireworks and more! Many Mexicans take personal vacations during this period. If you want to rent Casa Gallucci during the Easter Period it is recommended that you book early.

Cuernavaca Flower Fair (April 1st-7th)
Cuernavaca is one of Mexico's most popular Colonial Gems. Cabo San Lucas hosts several events for this truly beautiful festival.

Children's Day in Mexico (April 30th)
This is not a national holiday, but it is traditional to give children small presents on this day.

May 2006Top

Dia del Trabajo (Labor Day) (May 1st)
A National Holiday, Businesses and Offices close, nationwide. This is a great weekend to surf in the Cabo San Lucas area.

Cinco de Mayo (May 5th)
A holiday celebrated big time in the all of the world. This holiday has parades, local arts and craft fairs, and tons of partying.

Mother's Day in Mexico (May 10th)
Although this is not a holiday, many local people take a half day off when they can to take their mother out and celebrate this event.

Rolex/International Game Fish Association Offshore Championship Tournament (May 15th-21st)
This championship tournament formerly held in Hawaii, includes the winners of 77 qualifying tournaments. Fishing for striped marlin, tuna, wahoo and other big billfish, competitors come from all over the globe to compete in this catch and release event. A Rolex watch and trophy go home with the winner.

IWFA Annual Billfish Tournament (May 24th to 26th)

Navy Celebrations Day (June 1st)
Navy Day is an official Mexican Holiday.

Corpus Christi (Dates Vary)
Celebrated nationally, this event honors the body of Christ, and is flagged with processions, celebrations, music, food and dancing.

BACS Billfish Invitational (June 15-16)
A qualifying tournament for the Rolex Championship.

Annual Stars and Stripes Fishing Tournament (June 23rd-26th (may vary-please call))

Los Cabos Tennis International Tournament (June 7th-11th)
This event is held at the Fonatur Golf Course in the town of San Jose Del Cabo, just minutes from Casa Gallucci.

Los Cabos International Expo (June 21st to 29th)
The event is held at the Melia Cabo Real. Vendors from all over the works migrate to our lovely area to show their wares as well as to develop new business partners.

Annual Bread, Cheese and Wine Festival (June 19th)
This festival Features wines and cheeses from all over the world, as well as some local delicacies. The Westin Regina Los Cabos Resort sponsors the event. Tickets may be purchased by calling 001-624 142-9000.

July 2006Top

Las Arenas Roosterfish School (July 5th)
Event held in East Cape, Baja California Sur. For Information call (888) 644-7376.

Surf and Panga Roosterfish Classic (July 5th -7th)
This is an angler's delight in Cabo. This as well as many other tournaments with big prizes is sure to keep you busy.

Bike Race (July 11th to 12th)
Not for novice bikers. Temperatures can reach the low 100's. The race goes from San Jose Del Cabo and finishes in Cabo San Lucas. Pre Register at the square, first day of event. (USD 10)

Fiesta of the Virgin Carmen (July 16th)
Honoring the woman believed to be the protector of the Mexican nation. Festivities include, many craft vendors and parades of school children and mothers, followed by the puppeteers. Bullfights in the afternoon at Toros Stadium 1km south of the city. Also includes a small fishing tournament run by the city.

Discover Baja's Neil Kelly Memorial Tournament (July 12th to 16th)
This Tournament is in honor of a local Favorite. The tournament is held in East Cape.

East Cape Big Game Blowout (July 22nd-25th)
This Fishing Tournament is sponsored by The Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort and Western Outdoor News. 20,000 in cash and prizes await some of the finest fishermen from all over the world. For information call (800) 752-3555.

Baja Capers Fishing Tournament (July 29th-August 2nd)
This is an exciting billfish tournament. Held in the East Cape, Palmas de Cortez. For information you can contact the sponsors at bajacapers@aol.com.

Festival of St James (July 25th)
Celebration of the man credited with bringing Catholicism to Mexico. Parades begin at 2pm with re-enacted battlefield skirmishes around town square at dusk.

Lot's of food, drink and dancing celebrating the founding of Todos Santos.

November 2006Top

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) (November 1st and 2nd)
This event encompasses 2 days: All Saint's Day, and All Souls day. The first honors all saints and people who died as children, and the second pays tribute to the souls of those who died in adulthood. If you are in Mexico around this time, expect to see sugar-candy skulls, skeletons and Pan de Muertos (Bread of the Dead) advertised at shops and supermarkets. Relatives of those who died gather at cemeteries throughout Los Cabos, bringing bread, fruit and their decorated sugar skulls, along with candles and the favorite food of those who have passed to celebrate their lives, and remember their loved loves. The mood is far very upbeat; and is intended to be a festive time of life, not a morbid event!

This is a event that is held in Cabo San Lucas 15 minutes south of Casa Gallucci, in the gated community of La Jolla. For more information call (800) 593-6510

Off Road Race "Valle 300" (November 20th)
This is an event that is held in Cuidad Constitucion. Dia de la Revolucion (Day of the Revolution) - November 20th. A major national holiday which commemorates the end of the Mexican revolution. This day is marked with some Fiestas Patrias (but nowhere near as loud or prominent as Independence Day.

Whale Watching Season in Los Cabos (November to March)
Experts say that 90% of all migrating whales travel south to waters off Cabo San Lucas. The Whale Watching Season spans from late November through March. With Binoculars you can at times see them from our rooftop observatory at Casa Gallucci. The primary breeding down is further towards Cabo San Lucas but many have been seen in the Sea of Cortez the view from Casa Gallucci. Eight out of the 11 species of Whales migrate during this season within minutes of our home. Ideal Climate, water depth, and abundance of food combine to create an almost perfect place for mothers to raise their calves.

Cabo San Lucas Jazz Escape (Dec 2nd-4th)
Every July, you can experience the Cabo Jazz Festival. In 2006, The Cabo Jazz Escape take place between the 2nd and 4th of Dec.

Dia de Guadalupe (December 12)
This is not a public holiday, but probably Mexico's biggest religious event of the year. This day is recognized by Mass and celebrations in honour of Guadalupe, Mexico's Patron Saint.

Posadas de Navidad (Nine days leading up to Christmas Day)
Posadas are parties that take place throughout the nine days before Christmas Day. Posadas re-enact Mary & Joseph's search for an inn. Local children travel from door-to-door in traditional costume, holding candles and singing traditional song.

Christmas in Mexico (Dec 16 - Jan 6)
The Christmas period starts around the 12th and continues right through until early in the New Year on January 6th - Kings Day. Casa Gallucci, as well as rental cars and airline reservations go fast. Parties, celebrations and processions are evident everywhere you go. The resident of Cabo San Lucas love to party and Christmas is a big event here. If you want to spend a Christmas at our home, book early.

New Year's Eve (Dec 31)
Parties are vibrant and go on forever. The mood is of celebration and hope for the new year ahead. Check local events for what's going on.
